The tamarind mole and tostada de tinga are my favorite
Really good! I had crispy pork and wife had a humongo veggie burrito. A little pricey but we will be back!
Had the tacos and a Mexican beer. Tacos weren't anything special beer was cool and unique tho
Fabulous food, great service, prepared with great care
This place obviously knows how to please their clients. Always with a super friendly approach. The food is affordably priced, regularly fresh and neat.
Like to come here for happy hour by the beach. Hefty Pork nachos + tequila soda = $19 before tip.
Hole in the wall establishment serving decent food at a fair price. I'm in the neighborhood from time to time and drop by, but if you are looking to find a great deal this may not be the right place. Highly recommend the enchiladas.
I am a cheap person. I don't like to pay more than $5 for a 1lb burrito. The steak burrito here was a good 1lb, was $15, and was so amazing I felt like I was ripping them off. The salsa is also so amazingly good. I could drink it from a bottle. My wife felt the same way. If you are looking for Mexican food in the area and you don't eat here you missed out.
Mole made from scratch. Attentive owner. Highly recommended
This place is awesome. A real diamond in the rough. Cocktails are awesome. The best selection of mescal and tequila on the west side. Really good food and a very fun kitschy atmosphere.
Best skinny jalapeno margarita I've ever had. Fresh lime juice with chopped jalapenos and a little agave syrup with several thin slices of jalapeno over ice and chili salted rim. Down side, was credit card machine wasn't working so they could only take cash and we only had enough cash for drinks.
Nice atmosphere. Good food. Neither Homemade chips or carnitas were greasy (!) Weak margaritas, however. I had three, at $9 a pop at happy hour, and had a one-beer buzz
Food was delicious despite watching my to-go order sit there while the bartender went to go take another order. Not sure what that was about. None the less the food was amazing and have a good tequila selection.
Great place with really good food! Not far off the beach and worth the walk!
Hole in the wall place with quality food and super friendly and helpful service. Great value, too. Will definitely return.
Tons of veggie options in a beautiful location with gorgeous decor. Wonderful Oaxacan food, I can't wait to come back and try more!
Jalepeño Magueritas! 😋😋😋😋😋
Great Service with excellent pricing. The Margaritas were good and it has a welcoming atmosphere. Family owned and close to Santa Monica Beach. I will definitely be back.
Loved this gem. A bit of a hole in the wall, but comfortable and welcoming. Had indoor and outdoor seating. Waiter asked if I had ever been, and as my answer was no, he offered suggestions. I had the civeche, was a pretty large serving, could have had that alone, but i also ordered oaxaquenos stew with carnitas... so flavorful. It was a great find in an area with so many high end options.
The best tacos ever!!!
Found this gem on vacation. Friendly and competent staff and great food.
Excellent and authentic. Also has one of my favorite porches in the area. We bring out of town visitors here first.
Great food and great service. Superb range of mole. Highly recommended. Great value.
Some of the best food I've ever had. Incredible mole in varieties I've never seen before, great guacamole, and horchata. Friendly staff. Cozy atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Family run Mexican Restaurant great food very welcoming wide range to suit everyone including Vegitarians. Visit if you can not a run of the mill big chain well worth a visit.
Great place to stop by before or after bowling at Bowlmor. They have a really good platter of 16 (can't remember) tacos that's inexpensive and great to share with people. Also, their homemade micheladas are great but definitely on a spicer side.
Great food, drinks and people.
Really enjoyed my visit to El Texate - this venue is so welcoming, you will feel like one of the family! Michael (the owner) is a true connoisseur when it comes to tequila! Also, you will find a large variety of other spirits there too. If your in the area, check it out! PS - sorry we didn't pop in to say good bye, time got the better of us. You are much better than Wahacas in the UK 😁
Came around 11am on Sunday and got the eggs with chicken (not on the menu, but our server told us about it). I absolutely loved it!! Guacamole was good, chips were warm they were so fresh. Lots of space, no one else was really around that early. Friendly service.
Excellent food, great atmosphere and friendly staff!
I love this place.. amazing food, atmosphere, margheritas and service
Chicken enchiladas weren't very good and very dry but queso was actually quite tasty and saved this restaurant from a 2 star review. Atmosphere was what you would expect from a hole in wall Mexican restaurant.
Outstanding mole dishes! A hidden gem on the Westside few know about.
This place was fantastic and the margaritas were too. We absolutely loved every dish they put in front of us and the service was super friendly and accommodating.
Delicious cuisine that is only topped by the freshly made juice. Friendly service and authentic decor
Very good food. Good bar area.
Drinks were expensive. Margaritas were sweet but not too strong. They redeemed themselves with their tacos, which were some of ther best I've had in the area.
Great mole enchiladas! Service also.
Best nachos I ever had, nice mole & lots of really tasty beef on them
This spot is cozy the food and service is good there is a really spicy red sauce, guacamole the homemade food & tortillas are bomb 👍
Nice restaurant, family operated. Near the S. Monica pier with good fresh Mexican food. Not overpriced and great service.
Delicious food great service
I have to give it a rare 5-star. This is a family Mexican restaurant, where they care about food and also tradition. It is best known for their moles (and I recommend the South Mex version of taking it as a stew). They have great seafood selection too. But for me, their fresh tilapia, both grilled and steamed, is the highlight here. This place is a little out of the way, only locals come here - it's worth your trip!
Flavor was excellent! A great find! Friendly staff. It was very late when I went and this not crowded. I'd give a 4.5 if possible or a 5 if the chicken was a bit higher quality. However it was done to perfection and tasted great (it had some gristle).
Amazing food and wonderful service I recommend this place to everyone.
I was greeted by the owner himself who gave me the Down Low on the history of the place and recommendations, I opted for the Caldo de Rez which turned to be the most flavorful with the most tender meat ever!...my mouth still waters when I think of it...yum!!
So glad we came. Service was superb. Food was very tasty!
Dog friendly...is a plus....also there food is awsome dressed perfectly upon the hot plate. ...it was enough for two lovers except the dog ...but yes for Charlie and I it was a great day with charming settings and great food. 5 star for small places.
I've been eating at El Texate for approximately 7 years.Michael and the staff are great, the food is always fresh and they have a great variety of mole.
A nice place. The atmosphere is great. Its a nice place for a family meal. They serve drinks at reasonable prices. The staff is there to get their jobs done and they do a good job, though not particularly friendly. I had a pretty decent carne fajita for a good price.
